The Magpie Effect

“The Magpie Effect”, acrylic on canvas, 20″x 16″. This painting from 2019 was inspired by a visit to the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. One of the displays had reproductions of studies that Leonardo did of the ways that water flows around barriers and through channels. I got to thinking about the way that air is also in motion. I didn’t do a scientific study the way Leonardo did, but I tried to imagine how a bird’s wings would move the air as they flap.
